Skills Venture was founded in 2007 on the premise
that skilled professionals in developed countries, in particular
business people, can have a genuine impact on poverty in developing
countries by providing appropriate, targeted mentoring support
to individuals in those countries.
Most people agree that business growth is
the best way to beat poverty sustainably. But in countries
like Kenya, many small businesses fail because entrepreneurs
lack key business skills.
Our unique combination of mentoring and consultancy
places the emphasis on working together. It's more about developing
ideas than imposing complex solutions. This allows for real
progress to be made within short timeframes. Assignments are
tailored to individual skills and can last for days, weeks
or months.
Assignments also benefit the mentors (and
their employers), by providing a rich source of inspiration
and motivation, and helping them to develop new skills and
gain experience at the same time.
